Hi crochet friends, and happy October! I'm so excited to share this free Kuromi Amigurumi Pattern with you all!

In honor of my favorite holiday, I thought we should make someone whose favorite holiday is also Halloween. This Kuromi amigurumi pattern is fairly straightforward, but uses techniques that beginners may be unfamiliar with. I have tried to include as many photos as possible to make things easier, but beginners may need to look up tutorials for help along the way.

I am so excited to be able to finally share this Kuromi amigurumi pattern with you all. The design process took quite a while longer than I had intended, but I feel like it was well worth it! It's been such a joy to see all my testers' finished plushies and I can't wait to see yours on Instagram! Don't forget to tag me, so I can see your cute creations!

Feet (make two):

You’ll be working in an oval shape for the foot.

Ch4

Round 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, flip to unworked side of ch and repeat. [6]

ree

Round 2: sc inc x6 [12]

Round 3: (sc 1, inc)x6 [18]

Round 4: sc 1, inc, (sc 2, inc)x5, sc 1 [24]

Round 5: BLO sc around [24]

Round 6: Sc 9, dec 3, sc 9 [21]

Round 7: Sc 7, dec 3, sc 8 [18]

Rounds 8-9: (2 rounds) sc around [18]

Round 10 first leg: sc around, tie off. [18]

Round 10 second leg: sc 14 (this should be in the middle of the inner leg pictured, if your tension or crochet style is different, this may be in a slightly different location for you.)

ree

Round 11: Place a sc into the second leg, sc around both legs. You now have one big round. [36]

Make sure to stuff the body as you go

Round 12: sc around [36]

Round 13: (sc 5, inc)x6. Attach the tail this round, in the back, lined up in the middle. This position will vary based on crochet tension etc. For me, this spot ended up being on an increase, so I put the sc through the loops on either side of the tail’s base. If you don’t like this look, I recommend sewing it on instead. [42]

ree

Round 14: sc 3, inc, (sc 6, inc)x5, sc 3 [48]

Rounds 15-17: (3 rounds) sc around [48]

Round 18: sc 3, dec, (sc 6, dec)x5, sc 3 [42]

Round 19: Sc around, attaching the arms to either side of the body, through both loops of the arms and body. This placement will vary based on your crochet tension. attach arms on either side. Again, I mark out this position with stitch markers before I crochet them on. Skip this step if you are opting to sew the arms on. [42]

ree

Round 20: (sc 5, dec)x6 [36]

Round 21: sc 2, dec, (sc 4, dec)x5, sc 2 [30]

Round 22: (sc 3, dec)x6 [24]

Round 23: sc 1, dec, (sc 2, dec)x5, sc 1 [18]

Tie off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Finish stuffing.

Collar:

Make six of these spikes; do not tie off the last one:

Starting in pink.

Round 1: mr 4 sc [4]

Round 2: inc x4 [8]

Round 3: sc around [8]

Round 4: (sc 2, dec)x2 [6]

Switch to black. Stuff the pink part with scrap yarn so they don’t squish. Do not stuff the rest of the spike.

Round 5: sc around [6]

Round 6: (sc 1, inc)x3 [9]

Round 7: sc around [9]

Round 8: sc 1, inc, (sc 2, inc)x2, sc 1 [12]

Round 9: sc around [12]

Tie off and weave in the tail. Flatten pieces.

On last spike, ch 1, turn, and sc across each piece through both loops of last round, decreasing the last stitch of one spike to the first stitch of the next, like so:

Insert hook into last stitch of spike, yarn over, and pull through. Then insert hook into first stitches of next spike, yarn over, and pull through. Now that there are three loops on your hook, yarn over once more and pull through all three loops.

ree

Finishing the collar: Ch 1 and sc across. Tie off, leaving a long tail for sewing. [30]

Ears (make two):

Round 7: sc 1, inc, (sc 2, inc)x2, sc 1 [12]

Round 8: sc around [12]

Ch 4

Round 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, on other side of ch, sc 3. [6]

Round 2: inc x6 [12]

Round 3: (sc 1, inc)x6 [18]

Round 4: sc 1, inc, sc 1, ss, ch 2, sc 3, ch 2, ss, (sc 1, inc)x2. Tie off, do not finish the round. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  • Sew the perimeter of the face hole on the hood down

  • Pin the neck hole of the hood open so that it’s easier to attach to the body. Make sure the head and body are lined up straight, and then attach. Stuff the neck part before fully closing to avoid a floppy head, unless that’s something you’d like to achieve!

ree
  • Embroider the skull and then attach it above the pointy part of the hood.

ree

  • Pin the ears where you think looks best and then attach them. I find this location varies based on every plush.

ree
  • Place the collar around the neck and close the opening.

  • Lastly, add the face however you prefer— I decided to use felt for the eyes and embroidered the rest of the features.. Again, I do not have exact stitches I place these in. I like to section the face into four quadrants and then mark out where the features will go and move the pins until I am happy.

ree

And that’s it! I really hope you enjoyed making your very own Kuromi!
